Jen Bode, the owner of Equilibria, began practicing massage therapy in the year 2000 after graduating from East West College of the Healing Arts in 1999. Jen spent her childhood years growing up in the Midwest and the South. She completed 4 years at Lyon College, a small private liberal arts college, located in Batesville, Arkansas. After much hard work she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS in Biology/Pre-Med in 1995. Her plans were to attend medical school and she was accepted to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Before starting, she decided to take a year off to experience life in a big city so moved to Chicago.
Here Jen's life goals changed dramatically. She began working at a wellness center as a receptionist and was immersed in a whole new world of healthcare. Working there introduced her to chiropractors, naturopaths, holistic physicians and massage therapists. After this introduction, she knew without a doubt that conventional medicine was not for her so she declined medical school and began an entirely new pursuit.
Drawn to the beauty of the Pacific Northwest, Jen moved to Portland in the fall of 1997. Here she researched various careers and eventually decided on massage therapy. After graduating from East West, she worked in a chiropractic clinic to gain experience which allowed her to accumulate a large amount of useful information. During this time she also began her own massage practice part-time. After several years of this, she eventually decided to pursue her long-term goal of working only for herself. Thus Equilibria, LLC was opened in January of 2003.
Jen loves everything about living in Portland and especially enjoys the outdoors. She spends most of her free time hiking, camping or backpacking at the coast or in the mountains. Her style of massage is integrative blending several different techniques to fit her client's needs or goals. Her style ranges from deep and therapeutic to gentle and nurturing but always involves a thorough understanding of anatomy accompanied by an intuitive touch.
